I'm mildly biased at surrounding your spaces with inspiring things.
And come on! we all like to see ourselves! Every time they pass by this collage in the kitchen, I'm sure the boys are reminded of their summer F-U-N!
The really good memories FEEL you from the bottom of your barefoot toes to the top of your oversmile'n face. And sure...they're wedged, stamped...imprinted on our hearts, in our brains.
And yet, visual inspiration. There's nothing like it.
Kinda why we buy art.
Only me thinks this is a LOT more personal...

Isle of Palms ...South Carolina

The snow won't stop falling...I dream of sand.
And the sea...
I can take hundreds of photos at the beach, never tiring, looking at the 'same' ocean.
Light, waves, and sand perform in one of the most serene and playful dances I have ever seen.
Unlimited sand, falling into never ending ocean, against infinite horizon.
Everything is possible.
We are so insignificant and so significant at the same time. Our worries, fears and insecurities become so small. When you stand looking out at the ocean.
Every one of us however, has a purpose.
The grandiosity of the ocean is defined, comes together...by every one grain of sand.
It couldn't happen without each-and-every-one-of-them no matter how insignificant they seem on their own. How powerful and the magnitude of a 'creation' ...together.

I'm SOOOO in love with these photos of the beach I took in South Carolina...
Being in love with the ocean I'm blown away at the differences of 'the same thing'...
Water inspires me. It's symbolic in so many ways. I always swore that when I finally had a space/home of my own I'd fill it with the things that make me happy...that come alive...that inspire me. This will be one of them! (I have so many favourites it'll be hard to choose - my favourite might be the one at the beginning of the post...)
Sand ripples of glitter gorgeousness.......the clouds creating a reflection that almost looks like the earth. In focus, out of focus...up close.
The ocean holds a special place in my creative heart. Maybe it does for you too...

standing naked

I pass by this daily. Watching this barn-like structure once just a frame...fill in.
I kinda liked that you could see right through it.
That was what drew me to it.
Beautiful in all it's empty nakedness.
We hide so much from the world, from the people around us...from life.
(now obviously you're not going to stand naked, by this barn here, in front of the cold. Cuz I'll mention that it was like minus 7...that's like minus 50 with the windshield and I was pulled over on the side of the road ...just rewind for a second and make note that I spelled 'windchill' like 'windshield' ...hmmm..) Now I've completely lost my train of thought.
Tangent. Windshield...don't shield! In fact, stand naked if you dare! or maybe just allow some of your 'stuff'...to unravel...
We are perfect. The STUFF is what WE add...to hide
Remove the layers.
The shit and messy so-called imperfections are what make us beautiful, vulnerable.
When I can see through you...we connect
Cuz it's real.

This barn-like structure will never have the same allure for me as it did when I could see right through it...I feel sad that it's covered and smile knowing that I saw it naked ...

Gorgeous contrast | style and framing inspiration

Found some fabulous framing inspiration ideas from the Condo, Lofts and Apartments Special Edition of House and Home...
Love the simplicity of the framing here. Mixed with earthy elements and raw textures, the clean, and modern frames contrast beautifully here. Nice to pair our favourite *feeling* photos with other art we love, quotes etc.

GORGEOUS ...love monochromatic WHITE framing with black & white images! The contrast against the darker side board really makes this a visual 'stand out'. Great idea for entry ways and hall spaces.


Brilliant. The room where much of the family spends most of their time. The kitchen! We need to think outside the 'framing box' and incorporate different styles and textures. I'm loving the extra bit of negative space along the bottom and the wicker (which I'm guessing is what these frames are made of) add a nice warmth and earthiness - nice finish to a room of the same.

bobby and monica | oakville lifestyle photography

A family shoot with teenage boys ...where are the teenage boys you ask? being teenage boys! Sooooo...Monica and I turned this into a shoot with a subject that 'wanted' to be photographed!
Bobby. The dog.
Crazy how you meet certain people in your life...and instant connection. Monica is one of those people! ...a friendship that has seen much wine, soup! and ONLY laughter! I love you girl...
This is the stuff that rare *cherished* friendships are made of...
I think you should send these out as the 'family' Christmas cards...and the family wall art to go in the dining room!
The boys are already over it.
(honestly...you try not to take it personally when two teenage boys are looking at your like your the lamest, LAST person on earth they want to see let alone have photograph them!) Sorry fellas...no ego tarnished here! ...maybe a mild tarnish if you were in your 20's..........

home + style | framing collages

How absolutely artistic and GORGEOUS is the below collage of frames! This was taken from Cookie Magazine (sadly no longer in publication!) ...I love the simplicity of the room with the chair - balancing nicely with the busy wall. But not too busy. Great idea to keep frames the same colour...notice that the colour scheme is all pretty deep and rich too...love love!
I can't remember where I pulled out the below. There's a nice variety of art and photos in this image ...again, notice simplicity of the room, and frames are all different colours but warm in colour.
Monochromatic rocks. I love white. I actually can think of a few of my clients where this style of framing would work really well. Black and white photos with all white frames ...mmmmmm...
Such a clean and gorgeous look.

home + style | simple inspiration

I love magazines for ideas and inspiration. I often rip stuff out that I'm drawn too and stick them in a vision books that I've created for years (this is a really great idea to manifest what you want! and an entirely different blog post to come...)
I *loved* the fresh feel of the May House + Home...love monochromatic colour schemes, all white with natural colours, feels and textures pulled in. See how the green of the leaves is brilliant against the white? Great design doesn't take much. Move towards what 'you're drawn to or feel a connection to'...Thus my style behind the lens often mimics the same style of what I love for the home, the way I dress etc. I love simple, fresh...I often lean towards things with texture or the rawness of nature.
This is last years House + Home (the lofts and condo edition) ...love, love LOVE the white with the hardwood floor...so simple and clean.
And then the two image above...my favourite! Framing ideas. The lost art 'of'. Admittedly I often buy magazines for the framing ideas...there's so much we can do and yet we box ourselves in. Often thinking we can't put too many images up of our selves, our families ...wha?
YOUR HOME IS THE MOST PERSONAL REFLECTION OF WHO YOU ARE.
I'm going to be posting a lot about this over time. Sharing ideas that I'm inspired by, offering suggestions and more importantly showcasing some of the amazing work that some of my clients and I have created.

The first image above is from this months H+H ...simple, clean...looks like it might be an 11x16 with some matting and an all natural wood frame. This gallery style is amazing as a runner down a hallway. Some of my clients wonder about close ups of their kids or family for 'art'. Ahem...some of the greatest works of famous people are close ups! and we buy them?? and they're not even of us.......of someone else? interesting.

The second image was taken from the "Pure + Simple" editorial from the Condos + Lofts edition 2009 ...white, white, white! They've picked a corner of the bedroom and created a four-some. Black and white photos, all white frames, all white matting. Gorgeous!

Both, really easy works to create ...our lives are *beautiful*...it's about time we embrace this and create WITH this in mind. Great art is right in front of us.
