From our Tulum Mexico holiday back in May...
Pretty stoked about finally getting some of my own work framed and up on the walls.

small is the new big | home + style ideas

A quiet, yet bold sentiment.
The babes speak the loudest in these spaces...without saying a thing.
They finish the room. Make it complete.
In it's grandiose overstatement, it's minimal, real and refreshingly honest.
I get a sense of 'who' lives in these rooms, the feelings they want to inspire, what's important and what they VALUE.
A beautiful statement we can make to the world.
Especially in our own abode.

what's on your walls? | home + style ideas

You are the product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best propel you toward your dreams...
Are the things around you moving you toward success - or are they holding you back?

This is why I love the ideas above.
In their chaotic busyness, they are actually quite simple. Monochromatic framing helps with this as well as...choosing anything and everything that inspires you.
This kind of design often seems daunting when my clients mention it or are inspired by doing something of the same. And really...the simplicity lies in choosing what makes you FEEL good, inspired, come alive or something that just makes you smile. This can be anything from photos to artwork to quotes...a painting or a page ripped out of a book. Because it has meaning for YOU...that's enough.
Simple.
Inspiration.

To have this meaningful inspiration in your home fuels your soul and keeps what's important at a moments glance.
Because I'm so visual this is SO important to me.
Blank walls do nothing for my creative spirit ...only drive to fill them with things that make me feel...well...inspired.

What's on your walls? Does it light you up or has it been up since you bought the house and has now become part of the dry wall? Let go of what you think should be on the walls and replace it with stuff that makes you feel...
I challenge you to do a scan. Let me know what you come up with...

love...xo

a room to dream | nursery and kids rooms

a few of the picture credits: ohdeedoh

Clean lines, modern, rustic...
Create a world of ideas, inspiration and ...love
The little people,
...are just as influenced, if not 'more' by the what's around them.
Things you collect with them, things they love...
Words that empower, enlighten...
Where they sleep, dream and feel safe.
This is where possibility and imagination brews.
how do you want your children to feel? what beliefs do you want to instill in them?
who do you want them to 'be'?
This is all possible by surrounding them *in* and with these very things, feelings...words...

For all my soon to be momma's, hope this sparked some inspiration...
The dreaming starts before you even close your eyes...
creatively yours,
xo

Shaun Ford Design and Poliform | Calgary Alberta

The meaning of quality...as a basic part of every day life.
The Poliform collection is the result of long-term commitment to give the general public the greatest possible choice in the creation of a personal habitat.
Not to mention the style and products are GORGEOUS!
I gravitate towards the nature of style that makes it way into most of Poliform's designs. Rustic, earthy, real, natural...This may be one of the coziest rooms I've ever laid eyes on. So many different textures for tactile sensory seduction. And make note of the boxy framing over the sofa - LOVE.
The above photo/kitchen is a favourite of mine and has a story of synchronicity behind it (which I'll leave for another post) ..Notice that there isn't much separation (if any at all) between the outside and inside space. The home then truly becomes a blend of nature...
And nature gives us everything we need -- teaches us so much about style, living...life.

Spectacular view is not distracted, only enhanced by the quality finishes and clean lines here. I can't get enough of white and the contrast of dark wood...
Even with it's super modern and contemporary designs the warmth is still there!
Spacious and clean design. I think it's important to create 'space'...this is where movement and inspiration flow.

Poliform is one of the most influential and significant presences within the Italian furniture sector. Their mission statement can be summarized: to interpret solutions for the entire home, from libraries to wardrobes, from beds to complements; we offer a contemporary, timeless aesthetic, and craftsmanship accessible to a large segment of the public.

It's no surprise that my good friend Shaun is tapped into the incredible design and styles of Poliform (click on the logo above to go directly to his site).
He stands behind custom and authentic design.
He's creating beautifully designed, one of kind, inspirational homes and spaces.
Style in a home is about as personal as you can get.
Your environment will either distract you or inspire you. If it's functional it's efficient, if it's inspiring it'll move you in the direction of you and your families dreams.
If you feel good in this space and never wanna leave ...then it's 'home'

mish-mash framing | home and style inspiration

These spaces speak to my soul with their blend of freedom, nature and light...Combining earth's elements 'into' our homes ignites the creative spirit. I think we crave for this more than we know...Nature frees us to be our most expressive and authentic selves.
Brilliant framing! Don't shy away from framing and displaying inspiration in the least likely of places! where do you spend all of your time? What do you want to see, dream and be inspired by when you're in these places? ....contrast here with the rich dark woods and white! I love it.
Keep in mind these framing suggestions CAN be interchanged with your personal photos! ...be creative, think outside of the box. If what I'm inspiring here is showing you 'art' ...change it up. Your family, your LIFE - is just as inspirational. If not more.

God I am so eclectic in taste. Voila chic vintage! splash of colour against the rich brown...notice the mish-mash of framing on the right. Hello. Everything works. There is NO method to madness for display...if you love it. Rock it.
absolutely LOVE the casual and warm feel of the above framing! Mix of art and personal photos. Notice the randomness of the framing still has an order to it? get out of 'the same the same'....it'll work. Be open....
Perfectly spacious, white AND warm. Again...frames of different sizes and really no rhythm however they look perfect in their non-sense.
Clients are always asking me if something works or makes sense. Does it make sense for YOU. Then it works. Period. We create beauty not by asking and comparing to what IS beautiful to everything and everyone else but by liberating ourselves to find what works for us. Especially if they're family photos or something of a personal nature. There is nothing you can compare it too. Let your heart and intuition guide you to YOUR personal style...
Creating something that's unique to *you*

minimal breathes inspiration | home style + ideas

Ahhh...so love the white and simplicity of the above framing. White gorgeousness! this would look dynamite with some lifestyle shots...mostly tones or b/w perhaps one in colour ...
The above was from the British Elle Decoration September 2010 Edition.

Favourite home design mag ....The December 2010 has a ton of 'natural and minimalist' inspiration...

Framing can be uber informal and doesn't always have to be hung. The two prints on the side wall are a nice subtle touch that add to the minimal style of the space.

Beauty view of the mountains! what a breath of inspiration this would be to wake up too!
"Many people think of contemporary architecture as cold, but visitors say they have never seen such a modern apartment in the mountains that has such warmth."
Perfection. Modern. Minimal and 'cozy'...I do say it's *nature* that has that effect...

Lots o' zzzzz's and fun in the super awesome Fat Fat bed by Patricia Urquiola...smoked oak flooring to the bathroom. Mmmmmm...Who needs to get outta bed...everrrr....
Zeus walnut table by Vincent Van Duysen with Creta upholstered chairs by Carlo Colombo both from Poliform.

...love the above?
For something similar to the above OR to collaborate your own ideas with modern sophistication...
